*Boomerang Nabula* The Boomerang Nebula holds the title of the coldest known object in the universe, with a temperature of approximately -272°C, just 1°C above absolute zero. This extreme chill is due to the nebula's rapid gas expansion, which occurs at about 164 km/s. As the gas disperses, it cools the surrounding environment. Located around 5,000 light-years away from Earth in the Southern constellation Centaurus, the Boomerang Nebula provides a fascinating example of how stellar evolution can dramatically affect a nebula's temperature.
